A New Chapter: The Ongoing Reinvention of Me

A Single Step

I’ve entertained the idea of starting a blog for a while. I was laid off from my job as a Senior Marketing Project Manager in early 2023. Even with many years of experience, I struggled to find work in my field. I spent hours networking, searching job listings, writing cover letters, tweaking my resume, and going on interviews. I took all the right steps, followed all the usual professional advice, and nothing worked. It was incredibly frustrating. After almost a year of continuous searching, I started an Etsy business (more on the adventure later!), and even took a temporary part-time job as an instructional aide at an elementary school, and stopped looking for a marketing position.​

I realized early on that not finding relevant marketing work didn't upset me. Even though I was  a productive Project Manager, I really didn’t miss it. I always enjoyed the people, but the job itself was stressful, and I often felt the position was undervalued. I honestly was a better person when I was away from it. The reality was that returning to the marketing world, at least in the moment, was probably not the best path for me. As we got deeper into 2024, I consider the possibility of sharing my journey with others. That’s where the blog idea came in!

Reinvention Reimagined

As 2024 came to a close, I took a couple of online writing classes for bloggers. I had always loved the creativity in writing and hoped it would allow me to explore new opportunities. So, I threw myself into the courses and was excited to get started. I bought a subscription to a hosting site, and an upgraded blog template – no freebie templates for this gal!  Of course, like most things, it was easier said than done. I ran into so many problems that I almost gave up the whole idea.

Without the daily routine and consistency my job as a project manger provided, I had to learn to cope with my highly neurodivergent brain demanding perfection and running amok. It was tough dealing with both of these things. I slowly started making progress and realized moving forward was more important than perfection. However, I had one more issue to address. What should I talk about? What should I focus on?

I’ve always been a bit of a daydreamer, someone who loves thinking up new things. Inventing new recipes, creating new arts and crafts, and discovering new hobbies – my list of new, abandoned projects is endless. I don’t want this blog to be one of them. I don’t want to give up on another idea, another dream. How do I turn the constant need for something new and exciting into something meaningful? How do I embrace uncertainty, challenge myself to grow, evolve my well-being, and start reinventing? The answer: by sharing my random, sometimes crazy, sometimes silly, but always honest thoughts. By putting myself out there, holding myself accountable, and accepting the unknown, all while hopefully building a community.

Reinventing Together

Speaking of community, let me explain how Gal Reinventing will work. To start, I plan on posting a new blog once a week, on Mondays. Social media will vary. I can’t promise to share every single detail of my life, but I do promise that when I share, I will be honest and as open as possible. I have family and friends whose privacy I’ll always protect, and I will only share their parts in my life with their approval. Life will sometimes take over when you least expect it, so not everything I write about will be happening right now.

For me, there is one simple rule when it comes to blogging and sharing. I said what I said. This doesn’t mean that I will not listen to helpful feedback or rethink a post; I rethink everything! However, these are my thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I want to share them with you and hope you find something valuable in them. I am not here to tell you how to live your life, giving you advice or claiming to have the answers. Rather, I am just sharing the random musings that pop into my head and hope that you’ll share some of yours too.

Community Guidelines

​All that being said, here are a few community guidelines.

1. I encourage you to participate! I hope that you will interact with me and others here and on social media.
2. Please always respond with respect and kindness.
3. We will not tolerate hateful or inappropriate comments and will remove them from all platforms.
4. Please respect the privacy of others and always protect your personal information.
5. Feel free to share the blog and social media posts with others, but remember to give me credit when using my content.
6. Always avoid promoting other materials or unrelated content.
