Our day in Skagway started bright and early. Luckily, the ship offered a free continental breakfast via room service. We had to be off the ship for our tour by 7:30 am. The food was okay, but it did the job, and we were off to the White Pass & Yukon Railway train without a hitch.

I Found Another Train
We first boarded a bus; we figured several days had passed since our last bus adventure 😂 (see more here). This train was a little different. We boarded vintage-style parlor cars, each with an individual stove for heating. The train was also on a narrow-gauge railway.
My bestie and I had been on this train before and were apathetic about doing it again, but this tour was much better than our last one. I am glad we didn’t miss it. Why was it so different? For starters, it wasn’t pouring rain, which made it easier to take in the views.

Get Out Your Passports, the Mounties Are Here
The train starts in Skagway and takes you into Canada. We saw waterfalls, bridges (some of which were falling), and amazing landscapes. It was breathtaking, both literally and figuratively. Our final stop was in Fraser, Canada, where Mounties investigated us. Not really! Local authorities boarded the train and checked our passports. Everything was in order, so we promptly hopped back on our tour bus and headed into the Yukon.

If It’s Not a Train, It’s a Bus
We made a brief stop at a picturesque lake for a few photos. We then made our way to the Yukon sign for a family photo op. I wish we had more time to go further into the Yukon, but it was lunchtime, and I’ll admit I was hungry.

We headed to the Yukon Suspension Bridge. It was a family-owned and operated spot. We were surprised with a bison chili lunch. We knew the cafe offered chili, but we did not realize the meal was part of our tour. My bestie and I don’t eat meat, so we hoped there were additional options to buy.
Can’t Beat the Prison Bread
We were pleasantly surprised when they offered us a vegetarian chili option. We also got a dinner roll that was the size of my head. My brother kept calling it prison bread 😂. It was slightly sweet and very filling. I was so hungry I didn’t even pause to take a picture. The lunch warmed us up, which was welcome since it had started to rain.

We then took in the views from the suspension bridge, which we enjoyed even though it was drizzling. We walked across the bridge, took in the views, and captured some photos before heading back to the bus and Skagway.
Once we arrived in town, my dad and brother decided to go back to the ship since we gals wanted to do some damage and shop.
You Can’t Go Wrong With Fried Dough and Sugar
After hitting up a few stores, we stopped at the Klondike Doughboy for their elephant ears. I had seen pictures online and was determined to get one. The best way I can describe it is fried pizza dough covered in cinnamon and sugar. It was roughly the size of a dinner plate! I wasn’t expecting much and thought it was probably more hype than it was worth, but I was wrong. I have no idea how something so simple would taste so amazing. Having it on a cold day was sheer perfection. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and even better when washed down with a cold Diet Dr. Pepper 😀

We shopped for almost two hours before heading back to the ship. Our wallets were a little lighter, and our hands were weighed down with tons of souvenirs.
I Survived Another Day on a Train, I Deserve Pizza
We stopped by the ship’s Starbucks for a warm drink and met up with my dad and brother for some veggie pizza at the pizzeria. It was really good for ship pizza! Overall, a great day in Skagway.
Hope you can come back next week and see what antics we get up to in Icy Straight Point.
